Favourite Painting #75

"Wearing pearls, a cardigan and a printed-chintz dress, Dali's C.Z. is cast in divine light and draws you in with her cryptic expression. If WASPishness were a religion, this would be the Madonna."

- Fiona Murray (Dan's Papers)

"I remember seeing C.Z. once in Paris, in the fifties," Bill Blass recalls. "She came into the bar of the Ritz wearing a knee-length tweed skirt, a twin set, and moccasins - and in a time when everyone else was tarted up in Dior's new look, she stopped traffic."

I'm not sure what I enjoyed more, the painting or the review, both great.

I'm not familiar with Dali's commissioned portraits. I wonder if she was pleased with the results. You make a good point. A beautiful WASP.

A Fantastic meeting of two fantastic worlds. Lady Guest is so unfazed by the goings on behind her. Amazing and flawless. Equally wonderful blog.
Cheers back.
